Don’t Forget to Pre-Boil the Potatoes

In this recipe, it’s vital that you boil the potatoes (as highlighted as one of the first steps in my recipe card) so that you achieve the perfect consistency. Boiling will allow the potatoes to pre-cook and become tender. This is another reason why they don’t need to be baked in the oven for too long.

What’s the Difference Between Mashed Potatoes and Smashed Potatoes?

Mashed potatoes are a creamier mix of potatoes, butter and cream. Mashed potatoes have a very smooth consistency. To achieve its texture, you can opt to use a hand blender or potato masher in order to mix all of the ingredients together.

Smashed potatoes, on the other hand, are chunkier and heartier. Rather than mixing and incorporating it with other ingredients, the cooked potatoes are broken-up by being “smashed,” then topped off with additional flavors and baked in the oven (much like our smashed red potatoes).
