Easy and tasty French toast cooked in the air fryer

Breakfast is just so good – at any time of day! I love making French toast because it’s easy, can use up leftover ingredients, and it freezes well!

Of course, when I was writing my air fryer cookbook, I knew I wanted to include a recipe for French toast in the breakfast section. It did make it into my cookbook, but I felt it was too good not to share here, too!

How to make the very best French toast

The bread: you can use any kind of bread for French toast, but Broiche is my absolute favorite. Trader Joe’s sells an excellent sliced brioche that we use often. However, regular old sliced wheat bread works, too!

The milk: when mixing up your liquid for the French toast, one of the main ingredients is milk. However, the type doesn’t matter much. You can use cow milk, almond milk, or soy milk. Just add some. If you want to make the custard extra rich, then use half and half.

The spices: don’t skip seasoning your French toast! We use salt (of course) along with cinnamon and vanilla extract. Yum!

Ingredients

  • 6 large eggs
  • 1/2 cup half and half
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 8 1/2-inch think slices Brioche bread

Instructions

  • Preheat air fryer to 350°F.
Two slices of egg coated toast inside an air fryer.
  • In a medium shallow bowl, whisk together eggs, half and half, cinnamon, vanilla, and salt.
  • Dip each slice of bread in the egg mixture and turn to coat.
  • Shake off any excess moisture and set bread aside on a plate.
  • Spray inside of air fryer with non-stick spray and arrange soaked bread in a single layer (you may need to work in batches).
  • Air fry for 8 minutes, flipping half-way through.
  • Serve topped with powdered sugar or pure maple syrup.

Notes

If you can’t get your hands on brioche, you can substitute with most other types of breads. Whole wheat, sourdough, and even hot dog buns work in this recipe.
The half and half can be replaced with almond milk, soy milk, or non-fat cow milk.
Leftovers may be stored in the refirgerator up to 5 days and in the freezer up to 3 months.
