Crockpot Hawaiian Chicken
Crockpot Hawaiian chicken is a great chicken recipe because it does not dry out in the slow cooker. The mixture of pineapple juice, Worcestershire sauce, and barbecue sauce create a delicious sweet sauce that not only add a ton of flavor, but add a ton of moisture, too.
Do you want to know my absolute favorite thing about crockpot Hawaiian chicken? I don’t have to cook at night. Sure, I love my Instant Pot because it cooks dinner so quickly (Update: check out this recipe for Instant Pot Hawaiian Chicken). But slow cooker meals really are the best because I don’t have to cook during the witching hour. All I need to do is get my kids to the table and serve. Easy Peasy.
Is it better to cook chicken on high or low in crockpot?
We always recommend cooking crockpot chicken on the LOW setting. Cooking chicken on high will result in tough, dried out meat. You don’t want that!
How to make Hawaiian crockpot chicken?
This recipe is so simple!
- Arrange chicken breasts at the bottom of your crockpot or slow cooker.
- Top with chopped sweet onion (make sure it is a sweet onion and not a regular yellow onion!)
- Whisk up a simple sauce made of crushed pineapple, barbecue sauce, and Worcestershire sauce.
- Pour it over your chicken and cook it on low for 4-6 hours. (If you are using large chicken breasts, you will need the full 6 hours, otherwise, you are good with 4 hours).
Can I make Hawaiian chicken in a crockpot in the morning before I leave for work?
Yes. Although this recipe only calls for 4-6 hours of cook time, you can start in the morning and come back for it at dinner time. This will only work if you have a slow cooker that automatically switches to a keep warm setting after the set amount of time. You don’t want your chicken cooking for 8-10 hours as it will come out tough and dry.
